Constantly be Prepared to Socialize
Stories, case studies, experiences, effects -- these would be the stuffs of their future. There are a lot of theories, tons of how-to's, tons of sales talk in our day and age. Stories hold huge weight in pinning down a potential customer to a purchase.
Exterior of a revenue standpoint, story-telling in your circle of friends can make a huge impact in rippling out your company to other people. My very first enormous client (that's still my customer to date) came from a short chat while driving the train on my way for my afterward day occupation. We weren't really close. I told him that I was in SEO and shared its own worth and also what it did for my own website. He said that he would refer me.
Turns out that he did. I must close the offer.
After that lesson, then I never ceased evangelizing.
Give Free Consultations
Yes I know, you want to get paid per hour. While it might be true that everything you understand is worth every penny to what you're charging, free consultations construct trust. More frequently than not, it's let me get the whole enterprise.
Clients love the small things. There are businesses that offer SEO for as low as $300 a month. And yes, they assert that it's white hat -- with all of the linkbuilding tips you can ever imagine. If I tried to pull that stunt, then I would be out of business in a month's time.
While I read Seth Godin's Linchpin, I knew the importance of pricing. Louis Vuitton is able to charge that much since they are all for quality and exclusivity. I would like to be a company like that. That bling iphone is 1 reason why we provide customer exclusivity for their niche/industry. And we also bill premium for this.
Companies can butt-heads on lowering costs. It can be the weapon of choice for many SEO companies. The customers win and the SEO industry loses.
My weapon of choice will be increasing the quality of our solutions and building a brand. That manner, pricing is secondary and I'm pleased with the few really great customers I have.
